Adopting for yourself or someone else?
Why do you want to adopt a pet?

By registering you agree to our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy. Consent is not a condition of buying a property, goods, or services.

Eligibility
1. You must be at least 18 years of age and have sufficient means to support a pet
2. You must have a valid government issued ID

Stop by the shelter during open hours to meet pets available for adoption. You can expedite the process by submitting an adoption application ahead of time through each animal's listing on the Pensacola Humane Society website. However, submitting an adoption application does not hold an animal nor does it guarantee adoption. In the interest of fairness, animals at the adoption center are adoptable on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Benefits

You'll save a life

Each year, more than one million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the US because too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet.

You'll get a great companion

Animal shelters and rescue groups are brimming with happy, healthy pets just waiting for someone to take them home.

It will cost you less

Usually when you adopt pets, the cost of spay/neuter, first vaccinations (and sometimes even microchipping!) is included in the adoption price.

Bragging rights

No one needs to see another selfie—unless it’s a selfie of you with the adorable pet you just adopted!

Fight puppy mills

If you buy a dog from a pet store, online seller or flea market, you’re almost certainly getting a dog from a puppy mill.

Your home will thank you

Many of the pets from shelters and rescues are already house-trained, which means you’re not only saving a pet’s life, you may be saving your carpet.

All pets are good for your health but adoptees offer an extra boost

Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally and physically beneficial to their companions.

Adoption helps more than just one animal

Overburdened shelters take in millions of stray, abused and lost animals every year, and by adopting an animal, you’re making room for others.

You'll change a homeless animal's whole world

And get a new best friend out of the deal. Seriously, what could be better than that?
